POST-DOCTORAL AND DOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITIONS AVAILABLE
in Macromolecular X-ray Crystallography
at the Institute of Molecular Agrobiology (IMA), Singapore
Two positions, one Research Fellow (postdoctoral) and one
Junior Research Fellow (doctoral), or both Research Fellow,
are available to undertake research in X-ray crystallographic
structure determination of macromolecules involved in plant
disease, cell division, and other fundamental biological
processes being investigated at the Institute.
IMA is a new research institute affiliated to the National
University of Singapore, for basic and applied molecular
biology research on plants, animals and yeast. The research
is carried out on model organisms such as Arabidopsis,
fission yeast and zebrafish, as well as agronomically
important organisms such as rice and farm animals. The
institute will be housed in a new building from January 1998,
with an X-ray crystallographic laboratory that will have all
new and state-of-the-art instruments including an imageplate/
rotating anode. Details on IMA are available from the website
www.ima.org.sg.
Junior Research Fellow (JRF) positions require at least a B.S.
degree, and JRFs are expected to pursue a Doctoral program of
study while at IMA, with the Ph.D. being awarded by the
National University of Singapore. Stipends for JRFs start at
S$31,200 (1S$ = 0.63 US$) per annum, with the possibility of
an additional one to two months bonus based on performance,
and medical insurance.
Research Fellow appointments require a Ph.D. degree and are
normally for a period of three years, with extensions possible
at the end of this period. The salary range begins at S$49,680
(1S$ = 0.63 US$) per annum, with the possibility of an dditional
one to two months bonus based on performance. The actual salary
