A post-doctoral position is available immediately in the School of
Biological Sciences (http://sgi.bls.umkc.edu), University of Missouri-Kansas
City (http://www.umkc.edu). The lab is involved in the structure-function
studies of pectate degrading enzymes, specifically polygalacturonases and
pectate lyases (http://sgi.bls.umkc.edu/yoder/pectinase). Crystals are
available for some of the proteins of interest. Experience in protein
purification, crystallization, data collection, and/or model building is
desirable.
The X-ray Crystallography Facility at UMKC is equipped with a Rigaku
rotating anode x-ray generator, a Mar 300mm phosphoimaging plate detector, and
an ADSC low temperature device. The facility has 3 SGI workstations, a Protein
Solutions dynamic light scattering instrument, and is housed in a lab
maintained at constant temperature and humidity. Kansas City has a population
of approximately 1.5 million, and straddles the boundaries of the states of
Kansas and Missouri. The city has excellent social, cultural, and educational
