       POSTDOCTORAL POSITION

A postdoctoral position is available in the Structural Biology
Program at the Skirball Institute of Biomolecular Medicine 
(http://saturn.med.nyu.edu/), New York University Medical Center, 
New York City, USA. The aim of the work is to determine the 
structure of integral membrane proteins involved in ion or nutrient 
transport, using cryo-electron microscopy or X-ray crystallography, 
and to understand the mechanisms of transport across the 
membrane. 

The Structural Biology Program at the Skirball Institute has 
three groups in X-ray crystallography (Rashmi Hegde, Steve 
Hubbard, and Xiangpeng Kong), two in cryo-electron 
microscopy (David Stokes and us), and one in biocomputing 
(Ruben Abagyan). Excellent facilities for molecular biology, 
protein biochemistry, cryo-electron microscopy 
(http://saturn.med.nyu.edu/~lai/emlab.html), and X-ray 
crystallography (http://saturn.med.nyu.edu/~lai/xrdlab.html) are 
available to our laboratory. These include a CM200FEG and a 
CM12 electron microscopes, a Perkin-Elmer Microdensitometer, 
and two Rigaku X-ray generators equipped with image plate. 

The successful applicant should have a background in molecular 
biology, biochemistry,  or structural biology. She/he will have 
opportunities participate in protein over-expression and purification, 
two- and three-dimensional crystallization, and subsequent structural 
determination of the membrane transporters by cryo-electron 
microscopy or X-ray crystallography. If interested, please send a
