Research Associate position is available in the
Macromolecular Structure Group at the Biotechnology Research
Institute in Montreal, Canada. The Group is part of the Montreal
Joint Centre for Structural Biology, a consortium of Universities,
BRI and industrial partners in the Montreal area. The research
activities of the group focus on structural characterization of
proteins by crystallography to gain detailed understanding of their
mode of action. The projects include folate dependent enzymes,
proteins involved in signal transduction and apoptosis. The
Research Associate will participate in protein purification,
crystallization and structure determination. Involvement with
cloning and mutagenesis will be strongly encouraged.

The candidate is expected to have a Ph.D. degree in
biochemistry, protein crystallography or chemistry. Previous
experience in a protein crystallography laboratory is an important
asset. Experience in protein purification is essential and some
practical knowledge of molecular biology methods is desirable.
Our laboratory is very well equipped for all aspects of protein
expression, purification and structural work. There are very good
facilities for protein purification and crystallization, a network
of a large number of graphics workstations and servers, three area
detectors and good access to the synchrotron beamline for data
collection. The group includes protein crystallographers,
technicians and a computer specialist. There are many
interactions with the NMR group and computational chemistry
groups in the Institute. BRI provides a challenging environment
which promotes collaborative work within the Institute and
