POSTDOCTORAL POSITION AVAILABLE
FOR
CRYSTALLOGRAPHY OF MEMBRANE PROTEINS
INVOLVED IN PROTEIN SECRETION
In the group of Wim Hol, Howard Hughes Institute and Biomolecular
Structure Center, University of Washington, Seattle, a position
is available to study proteins involved in the secretion of
virulence factors like cholera toxin and other proteins, across
the outer membrane of pathogenic bacteria. For three proteins,
two of them membrane proteins and one a water soluble protein,
excellent expression systems are available. Two of these are from
Vibrio cholerae, one from Pseudomonas aeruginosa and all three are
prototypes of a broad family of proteins occurring in many
organisms. The goal is to unravel the structure and function of
these proteins by protein crystallographic methods. This will be
followed up immediately by structure-based drug design methods
to discover novel inhibitors of these proteins.
I am looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated person who has
experience with protein crystallography, preferably with good wet
lab skills. Experience with membrane protein crystallography is
obviously an advantage, but deep insight and willingness to tackle
a challenging and exciting set of problems is perhaps even more
important.
Please send a letter of application and a full CV, along with the
