Universities Space Research Association has three doctoral positions
available to work in the Space Science Laboratory at the NASA/Marshall Space
Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama with Drs. Craig Kundrot, Marc Pusey,
Eddie Snell and Russell Judge. The current research efforts include
structural crystallography and the understanding and mechanism of
macromolecular crystal growth, both on the ground and in the microgravity
environment. The laboratories are well equipped with biochemical, X-ray and
computing facilities. Successful candidates will be encouraged to develop
new and innovative research projects.

The first post-doctoral position is available immediately. Research efforts
involve the physical assessment of biological crystals by X-ray methods.
This research supports the development of an in laboratory capability to
perform reciprocal space mapping and topography on biological crystal
samples. Structural crystallography investigations will be carried out in
conjunction with the research to establish links between physical and
structural quality. Essential requirements for the candidate are strong
biochemistry and structural crystallography experience with the ability to
work well in a diverse group. Synchrotron experiments will be carried out
and a background in this area would be useful. Additional skills include a
strong understanding of diffraction physics and programming experience.
Please send resume and letter of interest via email to

contact eddie.snell at msfc.nasa.gov or marc.pusey at msfc.nasa.gov)

The second post-doctoral position is available immediately. Research efforts
involve the determination of novel structures and will be performed at the
NASA/MSFC Space Science Laboratory. The two projects are of pharmaceutical
interest and the structures will have implications for structure based drug
design. Please send resume and letter of interest via email to
debra at space.hsv.usra.edu. Reference 2. (For informal information please
contact craig.kundrot at msfc.nasa.gov or eddie.snell at msfc.nasa.gov).

The third post-doctoral position is available immediately. Research efforts
involve the study of protein-protein and protein-solution interactions
involved in the nucleation and growth of macromolecular crystals. For this
effort, a representative range of biological macromolecules has been
targeted. This research will involve both ground and microgravity
experiments. A strong biophysical or biochemistry background with experience
in macromolecular crystal growth and structure analysis is required.
Nucleation kinetics will be studied by a variety of non-invasive methods.
X-ray work will involve both structural and physical characterization.
Please send resume and letter of interest via email to
debra at space.hsv.usra.edu. Reference 3. (For informal information please
contact russell.judge at msfc.nasa.gov or eddie.snell at msfc.nasa.gov).

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of
research interests and three references to USRA, Attn. Human Resources/
Reference 1, 2, or 3, 4950 Corporate Dr., Suite 100, Huntsville, AL 35805.
USRA is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer with an excellent
fringe benefits program.
