Synthelabo Biomoleculaire has an immediate opening for a
Protein Crystallographer
to take the responsibility for the X-ray laboratory within the
Structural Biology Group. The successful candidate will be a
confirmed researcher capable of independent research, solving
the structure of biological macromolecules without any
additional expert assistance from crystallognesis to structure
refinement. Although a specialist in the X-ray crystallography,
he/she must understand the biological and pharmaceutical
significance of the projects and take full responsibility for
successful accomplishment of them.
Requirements:
PhD in biology, chemistry, or physics
Several years of postdoctoral experience in leading X-ray
crystallography laboratories
Proven record of solving macromolecular structures
Understanding of the principles of structural biology
Working understanding of other biophysical methods
Ability to collaborate within a specialised protein structure team
as well as interact with scientists in a multidisciplinary institute
(molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, genomics)
Ability to advise and assist researchers preparing the biological
material for X-ray measurement (cloning, purification,
crystallisation etc.)
Excellent communication skills
Capability to integrate in an international team
The Group of Structural Biology (created in 1990) is a core
facility providing global research support to several research
sites. It consists at present of four laboratories: NMR
spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, optical spectroscopy and
bioinformatics & molecular modelling. Its mission is to assist the
companys therapeutic axes (internal medicine, central nervous
system and cardiovascular) in discovery of new pharmaceutically
active compounds and their optimisation in the development of
the new drugs. It intervenes at all levels of the compound
progression in the research pipeline. Principal activities include
three-dimensional structure determination (X-ray, NMR),
dynamic behaviour studies (NMR, time-resolved fluorescence),
secondary structure determination (circular dichroism, infrared
and Raman spectroscopy), macromolecular interactions (light
scattering, plasmon resonance), surface and membrane studies
(optical spectroscopy), exploitation of genomics information for
therapeutic target selection (bioinformatics), prediction of
macromolecular structure and structure/activity studies of active
compounds (molecular modelling).
Synthelabo Biomoleculaire is a research institute located in Strasbourg
and a subsidiary of the French pharmaceutical company Synthelabo. The
forthcoming merger of Synthelabo and Sanofi will create one of the
strongest European pharmaceutical companies (for further information
see http://www.synthelabo.fr/. The Structural Biology Group will play a
key role within the new organisation.
