We have the possibility of offering up to two Ph.D. studentships to suitably
qualified UK or EEC students. The studentships will be funded for 3 years by
the EPSRC and in the case of UK students will cover university and college
fees as well as maintenance. In the case of EEC students, the fees will be
covered, but the student will need to find his/her own maintenance. The
studentships will be held in the Crystallography Group at the Clarendon
Laboratory, University of Oxford, supervised by Professor A.M. Glazer.
Candidates for these studentships should have obtained or be in the process
of obtaining an undergraduate degree in any of the scientific disciplines
such as physics, chemistry, biology, materials science or crystallography.
The two research projects will be
1. Research into ferroelectric materials based on PZT (lead zirconate
titanate) and related compounds- single crystals, powders. Techniques
include x-ray and neutron diffraction, various physical property
2. Research into a new type of optical microscope system capable of
separating birefringence from orientation. This will involve both computing
and some construction work.
Details of the group can be found on our web page:
Interested students are invited to contact Professor Glazer at
