A Postdoctoral Assistant is required to work in the Crystallography Group,
Clarendon Laboratory, University of Oxford on an EPSRC funded project for
three years. The subject of the research will be the study of structures,
phase transitions and physical properties of perovskite materials of the
type: lead magnesium niobate-lead titanate and sodium/potassium bismuth
titanate. The techniqes to be used will include the usual X-ray and neutron
diffraction, but in addition optical birefringence measurements. The latter
will be carried out using specialised equipment (see www.metripol.com for
details). This project will be in collaboration with the research group of
Dr. P.A. Thomas at the University of Warwick. Candidates should have
knowledge of general crystallography, but also should have experience in
phase transitions or property measurement (especially optical). Although we
are in a Physics Department, the position is open not only to those with a
physics background, but also to those with a background in chemistry,
materials science or related disciplines.
