missing phosphoinositide

Hi all,

I am a Master of Biomedicine student with a question about protein
crystallography.

Can any knowldgable protein chemists out there tell  me why a protein
crystalysed in the presence of a synthetic phosphoinositide showed no sign
of the phosphoinositide in the crystal structure binding domains? Does this
happen often and is there a reason for this?
