Selection for reversion of petites

Dear yeast workers,
A couple of months back, I read on the board here that you could
select for large, faster growing colonies from petites by growing
them on glyerol; the idea being that only petites that reverted
could metabolize a complex carbo source. Can you actually do this
kind of selection practically? How much yeast do you need to get
revertants? Is there anything more to the selection than this?
