I don't know if this will help but this is what we would do.  
Why don't you get a DNA fingerprint profile of the fungus 
first.  Release it onto the environment. After a predetermined 
amount of time go out and make a collection and see if you are 
able to find the isolate that you released using DNA 
fingerpinting.  Drop us a line if you have anymore questions.
