Postdoctoral Position Available

A fully-funded, two-year postdoctoral associate position is available
immediately in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the Ohio State
University (OSU) in Columbus. The successful applicant will join an active
NIH- and NSF-funded research group studying the molecular mechanism of yeast
Saccharoymces cerevisiae mRNA splicing. In addition, our laboratory are
particularly interested in studying a class of yeast putative RNA helicases (or
DEAD-Box proteins) which are involved in a variety of biochemical processes
(PNAS, 1990, 87 1571). RNA-related research is a major thrust in the Molecular
Life Sciences Initiative in OSU. Currently, we have nearly a dozen
laboratories working intensively with RNA-related topics and sharing a joint
RNA group meeting monthly.

A Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field is encouraged to
apply. The successful candidate should be highly motivated and must have very
strong background in biochemistry (protein purification, enzymatic assays,
etc.) and molecular biology (cloning, Southern, Northern, and protein
overexpression, etc.). Experience and knowledge in yeast genetics (or other
genetic systems) is desirable, but optional. Salary rate is negotiable and
will be set commensurate with experience. The position may be extended
depending on the availability of funds. Columbus is a comfortable and highly
affordable metropolitan area, where the state capital and a large number of
international service industry are located. OSU, a major research university,
is considered as the flagship of the state-supported higher education in Ohio.
