Fluorescent beta-gal substrate

Does anybody know if the fluorescent substrate fluorescein di-beta-D-galactopyr
anoside (FDG) can get across the cell wall of living, and preferentially not sp
heroplasted, yeast cells? Do you know of anyone that I can contact that could b
ring me up to speed on the use of this substrate or any other suitable fluoresc
ent substrate?

I know I should have used GFP, but the whole system is already set up with beta
-galactosidase.

Thanks a lot.
