Crabtree effect?

Could someone provide an overview of this phenomena and/or references?
None of my numerous Biochem texts mention this anywhere.

Basically, I have been told that S. cer. growing under aerobic
conditions with  glucose (0.4% or greater) will actually meet their
energy requirements by fermentation and *not* carrying out
respiration.  Sounds bogus to me...but what do I know, I'm a plant
guy!
