How many yeast researchers?

Is there any recent guess how many people are working (= doing research)
on yeast (S. cerevisiae and/or S. pombe or even K. lactis etc.).

The most recent "YEAST Directory" we have in the library is from Dec. 1993
and lists about 2800 people, but this is certainly not a complete list
since many grad students, technicians etc. are not listed.

Ideas? Numbers? URLs?
