loading fluorescent dyes in yeast

Our lab as well as several other groups have been unable to load acetoxymethyl
(AM) esters of fluorescent dyes such as Fura-2, Indo-1, and BCECF in
Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Does anyone know the reason for this? Are these
dyes not getting into through the cell wall or do the cells lack the esterase
to cleave and trap the dye inside the cell?
