In your original message you said that your desire was to photograph your 
specimens. To do this I would place the specimen in the container (possibly 
a petri dish as we do) and then slowly add 2phenoxyethanol drop by drop 
until anesthesia is achieved and make the photograph. The specimen is then 
moved to another container with no drug.

We loose very few specimens and have not noticed any perminent ill effects 
that we can atribute to 2phenoxyethanol.
