AQUATICS TECHNICIAN
NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH
An aquatics/laboratory technician is sought for a newly established
zebrafish research laboratory at the National Institute of Child
Health and Human Development, NIH. The successful applicant will
assist researchers studying the embryogenesis of the circulatory
system in this model vertebrate.
Specific duties will include:
* Propagate developmental mutant-bearing zebrafish stocks by :
-outcrossing heterozygous carriers
-identifying new heterozygous carriers via sib matings
* Maintain wild-type stocks
* Maintain computer database of zebrafish stocks
* Monitor breeding programs for mutant and wild-type zebrafish
stocks
* Obtain zebrafish sperm for cryopreservation and perform in
vitro
fertilization (IVF)
* Assist with other aquatics and laboratory (primarily histology
and
molecular biology) tasks as directed by laboratory principal
investigator
Desired qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree or higher, preferentially in the Life
Sciences
* Previous aquatics experience and/or education strongly
preferred
* Previous experience with zebrafish and/or fish IVF desirable
* Previous laboratory experience also desirable, particularly in
molecular
biology and/or histology
* Reliability and attention to detail are essential
