monoclonal antibody

I am having trouble with immunohistochemistry on whole mount zebrafish embryos.  My 
monoclonal antibody is cross-reacting with the surface of the embryo.  The exact same 
protocol (and secondary antibody)works beautifully with a different monoclonal antibody 
(store bought).  I would appreciate any thoughts on the background staining that I am 
experiencing -- has anyone encountered this before?
