Egg microinjection after or before fertilization?

Hi,

Objective:

Study the effect of the expression of a protein in early development.

Problem:

Xenopus eggs must be injected after fertilization, they say. Sea urchin
eggs have been injected before or after fertilization.

Knowing that the very act of injection may activate eggs from certain
species- which then will interfere with fertilization- it is reasonable to
inject after fertilization when one aims to get embryos. But is it all there
is to this issue?.

The second issue is: Single injection or multiple injections?. Is mosaicism
a problem for all the eggs or is it restricted to some specie.

Please biologists of the world don't get offended by these moronic
questions.

Thanks in advance

Hector
