Bioinformatics Positions - ZFIN
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Professional positions are available in the expanding Bioinformatics
Program associated with the National Resource for Zebrafish on the
University of Oregon campus in Eugene working with ZFIN, the zebrafish
database, as part of the Zebrafish Genome Initiative. Join this
exciting, interactive group of biologists and computer scientists.

DIRECTOR
Successful candidate will direct design and implementation of the ZFIN
database. This will require developing a solid understanding of the
needs of biologist end-users, as well as database design principles.
Good communication and management skills are required as well as an
M.S. or Ph.D. in Life Sciences or Computer Science.

SCIENTIFIC CURATOR
Successful candidate will be primarily responsible for data
acquisition and database maintenance, including literature searching,
evaluating, analyzing, and annotating data to be incorporated into the
database, integrating information from disparate sources, and
interacting with research laboratories to facilitate electronic data
contributions. In addition, this person will participate in database
and interface design by providing input into database content and
display concepts. Applicants should have experience with genetics,
molecular biology and be versed in genomic, cellular or developmental
biology. Other desirable attributes include writing/communication
skills and experience using computers. M.S. or Ph.D. in Life Sciences
required.

SOFTWARE ENGINEER
Successful candidate will assist with the design and implementation of
the ZFIN database. Primary responsibility includes design,
implementation and maintenance of database components and WWW-based
interfaces to the database.  This will require experience in interface
design and strong programming skills in HTML, Javascript, and scripting
languages. Applicants must be highly independent and
motivated to learn the scientific concepts underlying the data. Other
desirable attributes include writing/communication skills, SQL, Java,
C++ experience and an understanding of genetics and bioinformatics.
Degree in Computer Science or related field required.
