Research Assistant, Zebrafish Water Specialist. The University of
Oregon Zebrafish Facility located in the Institute of Neuroscience is
seeking a full-time research assistant to monitor and manage the
operations of its water systems. The successful applicant will have
a Bachelors degree in a biology-related field and skills in water
chemistry, fish biology, biological filtration, and microbiology. The
ability to understand and prepare exact chemical solutions is
essential. Some weekend, evening, and holiday hours are
required. Experience with PVC plumbing, building aquarium racks,
metal working, glass drilling, gluing, and plastic welding is
beneficial. The work requires occasional heavy lifting, repetitive
lifting of 5 to 10 lbs. and performing tasks in a hot and humid
environment. The job also includes fish husbandry, especially
zebrafish and sticklebacks, some management responsibilities
including scheduling undergraduates, some computer skills, and
general trouble-shooting. The ability to integrate into a diverse
workgroup is essential. Starting salary is commensurate with
