Ph.D. POSITION / DOKTORANDENSTELLE
Two 3-year University funded Ph.D. positions (Doktorandenstelle)
are available immediately in the lab of Dr. Gerrit Begemann within
the group of Prof. Axel Meyer at the Department of Evolutionary
Biology and Zoology at the University of Konstanz in Germany.
The project aim is to analyse the function of novel genes in
zebrafish and cichlid fish development, with a focus on the
comparative development of the head and the pectoral fins, and to
compare the evolutionary conservation of developmental processes
and genes in zebrafish with those in other vertebrates ("Evo-Devo").
Experience with zebrafish as a model system would be beneficial,
but is not essential. Candidates should have prior experience in
basic molecular biology techniques (cloning, PCR methods) and a
strong interest in developmental and/or evolutionary questions;
training in other techniques will be provided.
Excellent facilities are available to study zebrafish development at
the molecular and genetic level.
Appointments are for 3 years with a salary according to German
BAT2a/2 salary cale (about DM3,000 or $1,500/month).
Informal inquiries can be addressed to Dr. Gerrit Begemann, Tel.
