AQUATICS TECHNICIAN 
NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH 

A full-time aquatics/laboratory technician is sought for a zebrafish 
laboratory at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.  The 
successful applicant will assist researchers studying the embryonic 
development of the circulatory system (for more information on the 
laboratory and its research see: 
http://dir.nichd.nih.gov/lmg/uvo/WEINSLAB.html).  The position 
includes

* Propagating and maintaining zebrafish stocks 
* Maintaining computerized database (Filemaker) of zebrafish stocks 
* Obtaining zebrafish sperm for cryopreservation and performing in vitro 
fertilization (IVF) 
* Assisting with other aquatics and laboratory tasks 
* Basic husbandry (ie. feeding, maintenance, etc.) is performed by other 
animal facility care staff. 
  
Desired qualifications: 
* Bachelor's degree or higher preferred, with strong preference for 
degrees in the Life Sciences and knowledge of genetics 
* Previous aquatics and/or fish husbandry experience and/or education 
also strongly preferred 
* Previous experience with zebrafish and fish in vitro fertilization highly 
desirable 
* Previous laboratory experience also desirable, particularly in molecular 
biology and/or histology 
* Strong organizational skills, an attention to detail, and a positive work 
ethic are essential
