As part of the new "EMBO World Program", a workshop entitled
"Fish as Model Organisms in the Genomic Era" will be held in
Singapore, from October 24th to the 26th, 2001. The aim of this
workshop is to introduce the zebrafish community to genome-
based approaches currently being used in other systems, and to
stimulate development of techniques that will make the fish an even
better experimental model, especially once more genome
sequence data becomes available. Accordingly, as well as talks on
various aspects of research using zebrafish, medaka and pufferfish,
the workshop will feature speakers working with the other major
animal model systems: Xenopus, Drosophila, chick, mouse and C.
elegans.

Further information is available from the website
(http://embo.ima.org.sg) or from the organisers, Phil Ingham
(p.w.ingham at sheffield.ac.uk) and Suresh Jesuthasan
(suresh at ima.org.sg).

The deadline for application, which should be made via the website,
is 30th June, 2001. We look forward to seeing you in tropical
Singapore!
