Description of the project

Protein phosphorylation on tyrosine residues is one of the most
important cell signalling mechanisms that plays a pivotal role in
cell proliferation, differentiation, migration and transformation.
Cellular protein phosphotyrosine (p.Tyr) levels are regulated by the
antagonistic activities of the protein-tyrosine kinases (PTKs) and
protein-tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs), two large families of
enzymes. It is evident that some PTKs as well as PTPs are
essential for normal embryonic development. Still, relatively little is
known about which tyrosine phosphorylation events are crucial.

The aim of this project is to obtain insight into the role of tyrosine
(de)phosphorylation in vertebrate embryonic development by
analysis of tyrosine (de)phosphorylation in developing zebrafish
embryos.
