Announcement: For zebrafish gene mappers and positional cloners:

A new Simple Sequence Repeat search and primer design utility web site is
available for finding new, potentially polymorphic markers for genetic
mapping in zebrafish. This site utilizes the Sanger zebrafish genome
assembly and SSR repeat finding software coupled to repeatmasker and
Primer3 primer design to automate the design of new candidate genetic
markers. Go to:

http://danio.mgh.harvard.edu/markers/ssr.html
or:
http://zfin.org/zf_info/catch/catch.html

where this and other zebrafish genome resource links are available.

So far this approach has yielded useful new markers for several cloning
projects here at MGH. While the polymorphism rate for new candidate SSR
markers will depend on individual crosses, this is a useful addition to
other means of generating polymorphic markers.
