Hi everybody,
We are getting ready for a round of ENU
mutagenesis and have to think about the
approriate safety precautions. One concern is the
location where the ENU treatment will take place.
Most labs seem to use a fume hood for the
mutagenesis setup. The people I talked to gave
varying reasons from "we do all our nasty stuff
there" to concerns about vapors and aerosols but
with little concrete background.
I was wondering whether anyone has a more
educated opinion, for instance on vapor pressure
of ENU (I couldn't find anything in the MSDS of
SIgma) or aerosol formation from a fishtank.
Has anyone done mutagenesis outside a fume hood?
If so, what was the setup like?
Thanks for your input,
Christian
