This kind of external parasite infection is easily treated by using a
malachite green solution. Stock solution 3gr/litre and add 5 drops per
20 liters. It's important to raise the temperature in order to
accelerate the maturation of the cyst since the parasite is only
sensible to the treatment when they are swimming in the water.
However this disease is often combined with a bacterial infection and
this is the problem since the antibiotic won't distinguish between the
good bacteria from your filtration and the ones that have infected your
fish. In order to treat a bacterial infection you need a quarantine
aquarium off your system that you should normally have.
Here are some treatments:
Sulfamide: Sulfamethoxazole 5 gr/100L Duration 2-3
Nitrofurazone 250 mg/100L Duration 2-3
Make sure of the exact quantity of water you have (take into account
the volume of anything you have in the tank) or you might overdose.
It is possible to use malachite green and an antibiotic at the same
time.
Always use a good aeration during treatment, change a 1/3 of the water
every day.
However I would investigate at first if there is anything wrong with
the water chemistry or the cycle of your system which I doubt but...
The problem with pet store fish is that they are pet store fish. He!
He!
Most of the time there is no uv bulb to sterilize the water therefore
there is always some disease ready to spread from a single stress and
the fish that looked healthy can diseased. You should always assume
that those fish are potentially sick.
