JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
JOB TITLE: Assistant Professor of Maize Functional Genomics/Genetics
JOB DESCRIPTION: A position in maize functional genomics/molecular genetics
with emphasis on fundamental research related to the study and
characterization of the genetic control of important physiological
processes, pathways, or traits of maize. This is a 9-month tenure track
position with opportunity for summer appointment. Responsibilities will be
75% research and 25% teaching.
DUTIES: The appointee is expected to develop a nationally-recognized,
extramurally-funded functional genomics/genetics research program that uses
contemporary genomic and molecular genetic technologies to investigate
genes and their functional control of important physiological processes,
pathways, and/or traits of maize. The incumbent will participate in the
teaching program of the department, including advising undergraduates and
directing graduate students. The appointee will teach a minimum of one
course per year in an area related to the candidate's general expertise.
EDUCATION: A Ph.D. in a relevant area of life or plant sciences is required.
Postdoctoral training or equivalent experience is highly desired.
Demonstrated ability in modern genomic technologies and maize genetics is
desired. The candidate must possess excellent interpersonal and
communication skills, demonstrated ability to design and carry out
independent research, and clear ability and desire to excel in classroom
teaching.
SALARY: Commensurate with training and experience.
STARTING DATE: August 21, 1999 or when a suitable candidate is available.
