A postdoctoral position is available to investigate the
N-signalling network in the model plant Medicago truncatula.
Investigations using Arabidopsis in our group have shown that the
uptake of mineral N by plants is under the control of the nutritional
status of the whole plant mediated by a long distance signalling
network (Cerezo M et al. 2001 ; Gansel X, et al. 2001; Lejay L, et
al 2003; Loque D, et al. 2003) . The applicant will combine
molecular, physiological, and genetic tools to study if nitrogen
acquisition in Medicago truncatula (including nitrogen fixation) is
under the control of similar mechanisms. This investigation will
include transcriptomics studies, use of 15N labelling, and use of
Medicago truncatula KO mutants. The position is for a term of 2
years and will be based in Montpellier under supervision of Dr Marc
Lepetit in the group headed by Dr Alain Gojon. The project is part of
the EU FP6 integrated project =93Grain Legumes=94 and will be done in
collaboration with other French groups involved in medicago research
located in Toulouse and Dijon.
The appointees will have proven research ability in molecular biology
and will have a Ph.D. in molecular biology or a related discipline
relevant to the project. The laboratory is funded by INRA, CNRS and
the University is well equipped, has access to state-of-the-art
technology, and is internationally recognized for its strengths in
plant molecular biology and physiology specially in plant transport.
Montpellier is a beautiful city of 300 thousand closed to the
Mediterranean coast of Southern France.
