[Arabidopsis] RE: LED Growth Chamber

The Percivals are nice but costly. 11 years ago I bought standard no-lite percivals and put in my own fluroescents and LED. The big issue is that the temp-only chambers are not equipped to deal with high heat loads, so ballasts, etc must be on the outside.

In terms of LED you have many options. I've been using a Mark V Plant Whisperer system that gives loads of fluence rate at 530, 580, 525, 580, 660 and 730, each individually controllable for time, fluence rate and mixutre. Very flexible. Not crazy expensive.

We've just fit a walk-in room with these sources and can run a dozen experiments at one time.

That's my solution. Certainly the Percival is the Cadillac of the genre, but other solutions can do more for fewer dollars.

Don't tell me it can't be done... Tell me how you are going to help me do it.

Subject: [Arabidopsis] LED Growth Chamber

Hi Listserv,

My lab is currently planning to purchase the Percival Model E-30LED Growth Chamber. My searching hasn't turned up too much competition in LED growth chambers, so I am turning to the listserv for your thoughts. Any insights are greatly appreciated.

1) If you have used the Percival E-30LED, what are your thoughts on its quality, longevity, negatives, etc.? Any product add-ons that are "must haves"? Others that are wasted money?
2) If you have used a competing product, especially if you have used the product and can provide comments on its quality, longevity, negatives, etc.

Final thoughts - the budget is limited to something in the same range as the E-30LED (~$20K, plus or minus $5K) and I am not looking to build my own system from scratch (we already have a few in-house built chambers).

Thanks in advance for any assistance and Happy New Year to everyone!
