BIOFTP GOPHER changes links to EMBL searchable WAIS index

We have adopted the gopher server at bioftp.unibas.ch to the changing 
environment in the biocomputing arena. If your gopher points to this
site you might want to review your links. 

In particular, the definition of the WAIS searchable EMBL database changed; 
the last full release of EMBL is now located at 


The daily updated EMBL database is supplemented by an 'Exclusion set' 
of the GENBANK updates (updated weekly); based on Accession numbers all 
entries of GENBANK not in EMBL yet are added to this query located at

There are a couple of other changes, detailed posting see bionet.announce.
Please make sure to consult the Acceptable Use Policy statements of your
network provider and the servers you approach to assure proper operation.

The gopher+ code modified for Biology, as well as the w8b5 WAIS code, was 
obtained from Don Gilbert. Biocomputing Basel is part of the Biozentrum
