EMBL 57 available

Release 57 of the EMBL Nucleotide Sequence Database is available from
the EBI ftp server:
  ftp://ftp.ebi.ac.uk/pub/databases/embl/release
  ftp://ftp.ebi.ac.uk/pub/databases/embl/release/gcg   (GCG-format)
  ftp://ftp.ebi.ac.uk/pub/databases/embl/release/srs/  (SRS indices)

Release 57 contains 3,046,471 sequences comprising 2,164,718,256
nucleotides, an increase of about 12% over release 56.

Please note that the GSS division (Genome Survey Sequences) is now
represented by 5 files GSS1-GSS5, and that there are 20 EST files
(EST1-EST20) at this release. Cross-references to a database of EST library
information, ESTLIB, have been added at this release to source
features of EST entries, and cross-references to the MENDEL database of plant
gene nomenclature have been re-introduced.

For those who mirror our cumulative update file (cumulative.dat.Z)
containing new and updated sequence data since the last full database
release,  please note  that this will be changed to include only
post-release 57 data at Wed Dec 23 16:00:00 GMT 1998.
