NEWSWIRE is back! Thank you for the hundreds of emails of encouragement asking if everything was all right. I've tried to respond to them individually, but due to the high volume, I was only able to do so much. We have been down for three weeks as a result of a slam attack.
What's a slam attack?
That's where someone intentionally adds a groups of email addresses to a list, like NEWSWIRE, without the people's permission. This happened three weeks ago and overnight I had a group of people receiving NEWSWIRE who didn't sign up for it. While there could be worse things, I completely understand why some were mad. They claimed I was a spammer, but those of you who have been on the list know my feelings about spam...I HATE it.
So rather than run the risk of damaging NEWSWIRES' reputation, I sent out to respond personally to every individual who complained. I wrote them an email explaining the situation and what I was going to do about it. We were able to track back to a particular date in which a mass volume of addresses were added, and we removed them.
This email is to make sure we've done a good
job in getting every one who wants off the list
