EMBL 59 available

Release 59 of the EMBL Nucleotide Sequence Database is available from
the EBI ftp server:
  ftp://ftp.ebi.ac.uk/pub/databases/embl/release
  ftp://ftp.ebi.ac.uk/pub/databases/embl/release/gcg   (GCG-format)

Release 59 contains 3,952,878 sequences comprising 2,924,568,545
nucleotides, an increase of about 24% over release 58.

NB: the release files are now compressed using gzip instead of unix
compress.
    The GSS division (Genome Survey Sequences) is now
    represented by 8 files GSS1-GSS8, there are 2 PRO files (PRO1-PRO2)
    and that there are 26 EST files (EST1-EST26) at this release.

For those who mirror our cumulative update file (cumulative.dat.gz)
containing new and updated sequence data since the last full database
release,  please note  that this will be changed to include only
post-release 59 data at Mon Jun 28 12:00:00 BST 1999.
