We have begun the process of building release 86 of the EMBL Nucleotide
Sequence Database on Wednesday 1st March 2006
Daily updates:
For those who work with daily updates from the EBI ftp server (or mirror
sites) the last update file for release 85 will be named:
ftp.ebi.ac.uk:pub/databases/embl/new/r85u081.dat.gz
The subsequent update file will contain post-release 86 data and be named:
ftp.ebi.ac.uk:pub/databases/embl/new/r86u001.dat.gz as usual
Cumulative update file:
The cumulative update file in
ftp.ebi.ac.uk:pub/databases/embl/new/cumulative.dat.gz (and cum_* files)
will continue to grow with new data until release 86 is built and is
publicly available - we expect that to be around 16th March.
When the EMBL database release 86 becomes public (March 2006) the cumulative
(cumulative.dat.gz) file will be split into smaller files according to the
data class and the taxonomic division. The file names will look as follows
cum_dtc_tax_nn_rRN.dat
where "dtc" is a three lowercase letters abbreviation for the dataclass,
"tax" is a three lowercase letters taxonomic division,
abbreviation "nn" - number of the file in a particular sequence (starting
from "01")
"RN" - number of the release where the new/updated data belong; always the
number of the current public release + 1
