Artemisia Project: post-doctoral researcher metabolite profiling
REF: DR07216
CNAP - Department of Biology
University of York, UK
A position is available for a Research Associate to characterise
metabolite profiles of plants using predominantly GC mass spectrometry
in a large scale research project on the medicinal plant, Artemisia
annua conducted within CNAP, in the Department of Biology.
The Artemisia project aims to increase the yield of artemisinin in
Artemisia annua, an important starting material for anti-malarial
combination therapies. You will devise and implement quantitative 1- and
2-dimensional GC-MS assays to measure hundreds of volatile secondary
metabolites involved in biosynthetic pathways that may impact on the
yield of artemisinin. Some LC-MS work will also be carried out.
You will be a team worker with experience in method development for GC-
and LC-MS assays, and have an in depth knowledge of biochemistry and
metabolism as well as the application of statistics. Experience in MS
spectral analysis, creation/annotation of component libraries, and high
throughput assays and forward screens would be an advantage.
Salary is in the range £25,889 - £31,840. The post is available for a
period of two years.
Closing date: 22nd June 2007.
Interview date: 11th July 2007
