Graduate Student / Visiting Scholar / Postdoctoral Fellow Positions Available in Canada
(1). A Master's (or Ph. D) student position to work on bioconversion of biomass in pulp/paper mill sludge to useful bioproducts and/or biofuels will be available from September 1, 2008 or January 1. 2009. Collaboration with the engineers in pulp/paper mills is available. The successful candidates should have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in biological sciences, chemistry, forestry science or closely related field.
(2). A Ph. D student position to work on microbe engineering (Bacteria or Fungi) for cellulase production will be available from September 1, 2008 or January 1, 2009. The successful candidates should have a Master's degree in biological sciences with strong background in molecular biology and biochemistry. Experience in Trichoderma reesei and/or Clostridium thermocellum is preferred, but not required. (One Ph. D student position has been filled recently, but more Ph. D students are expected to work on different aspects of this project).
(3). A Ph. D student position to work on molecular biology of plant cold stress responses using Arabidopsis and/or cold resistant transgenic canola or other crops for bio-oil production will be available from September 1, 2008 or January 1, 2009. The successful applicants should have strong background in molecular biology, plant physiology or closely related field. Experience in Arabidopsis thaliana is preferred, but not required. (A postdoctoral research position may also be available from July 2008 or after).
(4). Visiting scholars with own fellowships and graduate students with own scholarships are welcome to join us to participate in our research projects or work on your own projects in our lab.
For Master's or Ph. D degree studies, applicants whose native language is not English and who have not studied in an English language school system for more than three full years will be required to present proof of English proficiency by achieving appropriate standing on one of the following tests: TOEFL 550 and higher (Paper-based) or 213 and higher (Computer-based) or 80 and higher (Internet-based) (Note: Lakehead University's Institution Code is 0888).
