SCIENTIFIC OFFICER IN BIOINFORMATICS
Salary range £22,100 – £36,000
The Beatson Institute in Glasgow is one of Europe's leading cancer research
centres. It is core funded by Cancer Research UK and supports cutting edge
research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. The Institute
has recently moved to a new facility that provides an outstanding research
environment, underpinned by state-of-the art core services and advanced
technologies.
We are looking for a Bioinformatician to join the Beatson Institute
Bioinformatics Facility, to develop applications for proteomics. The post
will involve writing code/scripts to process and visualize mass spectrometry
data. It will also include maintenance of existing servers and processing
software e.g. Mascot, X!Tandem, OMSSA and installation/development of new
tools. Candidates must have a degree in computer science, mathematics,
physics or life sciences with a minimum of 1 to 3 years experience in
proteomics, protein chemistry and mass spectrometry data processing.
Expertise in Linux/Unix, Perl, Java and C/C++ are essential skills.
Experience in SQL (mySQL), database administration and/or knowledge of
statistics would be an advantage. You will also be required to communicate
findings to a multidisciplinary audience in English.
