In a 1995 review by R. Tsien it is stated that minor truncations of GFP lead to loss of fluorescence.
An abstract to a meeting and a personal communication were cited. Does anyone have more information or a journal reference I can refer to?
Information concerning the truncation of newer, more strongly fluorescent proteins would also be interesting.
