Is GFP expression homogenous in monoclonal cell population?

Hi,

Did anyone notice heterogenous expression of EGFP in monoclonal cell
population?

We observed that even monoclonal NIH 3T3 cells stably transfected with
pEGFP-C1 showed heterogenous expression of EGFP. This led to less
percentage of postive(green) cells in a population on FACS.

Does anyone know if this is usual? Does anyone know how they could achieve
near 2 log level increase of fluorescence intensity in a population?(Shown
by the right shift of transfected cells compare to wild-type in FACS
histogram in published papers). Is this achieved by constantly sorting the
cells?

Thanks in advance for any suggestion.
