I hope this is not too much off topic, but I've got a question on
storing image data aquired with a confocal microscope.
I'd like to archive bulky image data on CDROM. These files
(typically 100-200 MByte) may be copmpressed 5 to 10 times in size,
and I'd like to store as much data as possible on one CD.
One way would be craeting a zip file that then is burned on the
CDROM.
But I'd prefer a solution where the user does not need to deal with
zip files (and extract the files to a harddisk when working with
them) but just inserts the CDROM an has full access to the compressed
data. This probably means that I have to generate a file containing
the compressed data before transferring it onto the CDROM. This file
then would be recognized as a read-only-disk (or similar) by a device
driver resulting in transparent access to the image data.
Our system is running under Windows NT4, but I'd prefer a solution
that would run under LINUX, too.
Any ideas?`
