It did fluoresce in our hands. We tried both GFP alone and GFP fusions
and got nice fluorescence spectra in cell lysates (it's important to
centrifuge the lysates, otherwise you will have troubles with particles
floating around).

IMO, Western blotting is much more sensitive.
