Yellow yeast cells

While regarding yeast cells with a GFP- fusion protein with a
flurescence microscope, I often see yellow cells. These cells mostly
seem to be dead, so may this effect also due to the fact that some
flavin coenzymes show autofluorescence?
Or could it be that is has something to do with GFP?
