Sorry for the blank postings, I'm still getting used to this system.
I'm not trying to imply that all of tolerance can be attributed to
cytokines.  I agree that clonal deletion is well documented, as well as 
the phenomenon of peripheral tolerance.  Throw on top of that active
suppression, the requirement for co-stimulation, and you come up
with the murky model for tolerance that I teach the graduate students.

As Ron Schwartz said at a recent Asilomar meeting, "We're missing
something folks".  Come on, lets have some new ideas.

By the way, I haven't seen any explanations for the TGFbeta knockout
 data.  One person indicated that it was a "transgenic artifact".
What do you mean??
