Hi All!
Wow! I can't believe all the posts. This is more like a real news group.
I just have a few comments/questions, to address to everyone.
First, I am a grad student and should receive my Ph.D. within the next
millenium (I'm on the American System) and my primary interests are mucosal
immunology, complement and vaccine development. I was thrilled when our
server started posting this group, but of course was dissappointed when it
didn't have a lot of disscussion. I love the self/nonself thread although
I'm a bit baffled still by the initial premise. My question is this,
though, who else is out there and what are your interests and levels of
experience? When I've posted here in the past, I've assumed only a few
people have read me. I am clearly wrong.
Secondly, would it be possible to publicize this newsgroup at the next
AAI meeting in Annaheim? What you you all think? I wonder if a company
might sponser it.
Thirdly, why don't we get a FAQ together if one doesn't already exist.
I've noticed that more than %50 of posts are simply for antibody requests.
There is nothing wrong with this of course if one has already consulted
Kabat, ATCC and even medline.
Fourth, (quaternarily?), Does anyone who reads this also subscribe to any
of the listservs from NIH etc. and if so do those subscribers know of this
news groups existance? I subscribe to IGA-L which dicusses IgA and other
mucosal subjects. Write Dr. Mike Russell at medm012 at uabdpo.dpo.uab.edu for
more information. Can you all recommend good groups which to subscribe?
Finally, I want to sing the praises of this newsgroup and the net in
general. This is one of the few places I can yap about immunology and
expect a hearty and honest reply from a diverse group of people. This
place is remarkably egalitarian. I love it!
