I think that the data is pretty clear, Tim Mossman not withstanding, that
Th1 qnd Th2 cytokine production patterns are characteristics of a
population response and not a cell in vivo. In situ hybriddization
studies on clones of T cells show a variable pattern of transcription of
cytokine genes, including those which are of the incorrect type. Don't
overinterpret the data. The idea of different cytokine response patterns
influeincg the outcome of an infection is very different fromt the
exixitence of descrete cell populations.
