The field of psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) has advanced remarkably
in the past 15 years. Recently, professional societies devoted to the
study of the bidirectional relations between the nervous and immune
systems have begun to proliferate. However, given the fast-moving and
relatively young state of this field, PNI researchers would benefit
greatly from a forum that allowed the rapid dissemination of new
findings. Moreover, given the many levels of analysis and bodies of
evidence that researchers in this area must draw from, an electronic forum
would be a useful arena for the exchange and sharing of information.
Finally, an electronic collection of minds could extract more meaning
from the sometimes disjointed findings in this area than a single
one ever could.
In the spirit of these concerns, the mailing list PNI has been
created to promote the scholarly discussion of past, present and future
research in psychoneuroimmunology and research related to the study of
neural-immune relations.
Anyone who wishes to share personal insights, research findings,
philosophical outlooks, clinical case notes, simple anecdotes or
information related to any of the following, is invited to contribute:
* Current and past research papers, unpublished findings.
* Planned research.
* Professional societies related to PNI
* Conferences, meetings and conventions related to PNI
* Methodology: laboratory models, assays, statistical and analytical
methods, meta-analysis, clinical case applications.
* Mechanisms of neural --> immune influence.

- Non-classic stress hormone systems
- Receptors on immune cells
- Sympathetic innervation of lymphatic tissue
* Mechanisms of immune --> neural influence.
- Cytokines in the nervous system
- Cytokines and endocrine systems

* Conditioned immunomodulation.
* Developmental neuroimmunology.
- Pre-, peri- and post-natal critical periods

In healthy, "at-risk" and diseased populations:
